Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and operate database components such as ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, and storage formats.
- Build the architecture for a scalable, multi-tenant database SaaS, including tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and service boundaries.
- Develop APIs and database interfaces that support fast retrieval for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications.
- Make architectural and product tradeoffs as the system evolves from prototype to production.
- Instrument and operate database services using metrics, logs, traces, alerts, dashboards, and observability tools.
- Contribute to storage choices, API contracts, deployment patterns, service boundaries, and engineering practices.
- Own database solutions end to end and collaborate effectively across product, infrastructure, and engineering teams.
Requirements
- Experience building production-grade, user-facing software systems and delivering software actively used in production.
- Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.
- Mastery of a programming language such as Go, C++, or Rust.
- Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks and a practical approach to delivering reliable solutions.
- Experience working in cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience using observability tools to understand and troubleshoot system behavior.
- Ability to work autonomously through ambiguity, make architectural decisions, iterate quickly, and communicate effectively.
- Bonus: experience building distributed query engines, data warehouses or data lakes, or tools for data engineering.
