Staff Robotics Engineer

- Own customer success through a multi-year, multi-stakeholder software roadmap spanning multiple teams.
- Architect, design, and deliver safe navigation, collision avoidance, and situational awareness systems.
- Drive development and implementation of sensor suites, perception algorithms, planning algorithms, and test fixtures for autonomous vehicles.
- Perform high-impact individual-contributor work across the perception and planning stack.
- Apply computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning techniques to improve vehicle perception and planning.
- Test and validate perception and planning algorithms using simulation and real-world experiment data while evolving data-analysis tooling.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, systems, external, and customer-facing teams on system integration and interface requirements.
- Travel to co-locate with end users or other teams up to 20% of the time.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in C++ and/or Python software development.
- Familiarity with autonomous vehicle hardware and sensors including radar, sonar, LIDAR, and cameras.
- Knowledge of at least one of computer vision, sensor fusion, SLAM, motion planning, or machine learning.
- Experience in a senior perception or planning role delivering a robotic system.
- Ability to own a system across stakeholder engagement, requirements definition, roadmap management, team coordination, design, implementation, sustainment, and evolution.
- Ability to define and implement robust validation and verification strategies for perception and planning modules.
- Ability to mentor junior team members and build team cohesion and capacity.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Negative Vetting 2 security clearance.
- Preferred: experience with autonomous systems in ground, air, maritime, or space domains.
- Preferred: experience with Gazebo, Unity, or Unreal Engine for algorithm validation and testing.
- Preferred: knowledge of safety standards, certification processes for autonomous systems, and systems engineering concepts.
