Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain production Java and Spring Boot services for a payments platform.
- Add new payment methods and deliver features, bug fixes, and reliability improvements.
- Build and maintain GraphQL APIs and event-driven services that consume messages from production messaging systems.
- Design transactional boundaries, idempotent event handlers, and integrations with third-party billing and REST- or SDK-based platforms.
- Manage JPA entities, transactional designs, optimistic locking, and production schema migrations.
- Write unit and integration tests and maintain JaCoCo quality gates.
- Improve observability and resilience using Datadog metrics and monitors.
- Support safe canary and production deployments gated by Datadog monitors.
- Use GitLab CI/CD and Gradle multi-module builds to deliver production-ready changes.
- Use AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or Claude responsibly while maintaining code quality and correctness.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Java and Spring Boot in production microservices.
- Demonstrated ownership of production services in distributed systems environments at a mid-to-senior level.
- Required experience with the Apollo Java/Kotlin GraphQL client and experience with GraphQL APIs using Netflix DGS or Apollo.
- Hands-on experience with AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, or RabbitMQ in event-driven distributed systems.
- Strong JPA/Hibernate, Spring Data JPA, and MySQL/Aurora experience, including transactional design, optimistic locking, entity management, and schema migrations.
- Experience writing JUnit 5 and Mockito unit tests and integration tests against live environments.
- Proficiency with Gradle multi-module builds, GitLab CI/CD, JaCoCo, and Datadog metrics and monitors.
- Experience with financial-grade backend systems requiring correctness, idempotency, and consistency.
- Experience integrating external REST- or SDK-based third-party platforms.
- Enterprise experience is strongly preferred.
- Prior billing or payments domain experience, Spring Boot 3, Netflix DGS, and experience with DynamoDB using AWS SDK v2 or MongoDB with Spring Data are nice-to-have qualifications.
- Candidates must be based in an eligible APAC location and provide working-hour coverage aligned with India Standard Time.
