Responsibilities
- Architect and build production-grade internal AI tools and shared platform capabilities.
- Lead technical design and delivery of MCP-based tools, agentic workflows, context layers, model gateways, and workflow automation.
- Take ambiguous business problems from discovery and architecture through implementation, deployment, measurement, and operation.
- Build and maintain infrastructure connecting approved models with internal systems, data, APIs, and workflows.
- Own reliability, scalability, observability, security, model routing, evaluation, access control, and sensitive-data handling for production AI systems.
- Contribute across backend services, infrastructure, and user-facing interfaces as needed.
- Evaluate AI models, frameworks, and patterns and recommend what the company should adopt or avoid.
- Shape the technical roadmap and identify reusable platform opportunities tied to measurable business impact.
- Provide technical guidance through code reviews, pairing, documentation, office hours, and engineering discussions.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated technical leadership on complex production systems.
- Hands-on experience building and operating AI-enabled applications in production, including MCP or comparable tool-use protocols, agents, context management, and LLM integrations.
- Experience building internal tools, developer platforms, or enterprise systems adopted by real users and producing measurable operational impact.
- Deep backend expertise in Ruby, Python, or a comparable language, with the ability to learn new languages and frameworks.
- Strong systems-design fundamentals covering APIs, integrations, distributed systems, data flows, authentication, authorization, and architectural trade-offs.
- Practical experience operating reliable systems in AWS or a comparable environment, including CI/CD, containers, serverless infrastructure, observability, and infrastructure as code.
- Ability to work independently through ambiguity and drive substantial initiatives to completion.
- Clear communication and Staff-level influence, including constructive technical challenge, knowledge sharing, and connecting engineering work to business outcomes.
- Experience with React, TypeScript, or GraphQL is a bonus.
- Experience with n8n, Temporal, or another workflow orchestration platform is a bonus.
- Familiarity with LLM evaluation and observability platforms such as Langfuse is a bonus.
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Cloudflare Workers, or similar infrastructure and deployment tooling is a bonus.
- Experience in healthcare or another regulated environment governed by standards such as HIPAA or SOC 2 is a bonus.
