
Staff Software Engineer, AI-Accelerated Digital Commerce

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of customer-facing digital commerce systems across qualification, catalog, cart, checkout, billing, payments, subscriptions, orders, and customer account journeys.
- Use AI-assisted workflows for implementation, code review, testing, debugging, documentation, and understanding existing codebases and architectures.
- Evaluate AI output for correctness, security, maintainability, and production readiness, and guide safe adoption.
- Drive architecture and API decisions for modern web applications and services.
- Improve design reviews, testing strategy, test automation, operational automation, observability, and DevOps practices.
- Build reusable workflows, patterns, and guidance to improve engineering productivity.
- Partner with product, design, architecture, platform, and operations teams on technical direction.
- Coach engineers and influence technical execution beyond direct coding contributions.
Requirements
- At least 8–10 years of strong coding, debugging, and code review experience.
- At least 7 years of API and system design experience with sound tradeoff judgment.
- Practical experience using AI for coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and understanding codebases, APIs, architectures, and technical documentation.
- Ability to apply AI within structured engineering practices involving specifications, reviews, tests, and observability.
- Hands-on experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, Java, and modern web application architecture.
- Strong experience with test automation, operational automation, and DevOps practices.
- Ability to balance performance, reliability, maintainability, and cost while improving team delivery.
- Preferred experience in digital commerce or customer-facing digital platforms and flows such as checkout, payments, subscriptions, orders, catalog, cart, and accounts.
- Preferred exposure to Shopify or similar commerce ecosystems.
- Preferred exposure to Model Context Protocol, LangChain, retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, AI agents, or evaluation frameworks.
- Preferred experience helping teams adopt newer AI development workflows without overengineering.
