Responsibilities
- Create monitoring queries and service-level baselines for critical database services.
- Design solutions that improve availability, fault tolerance, recoverability, and resilience across AWS database platforms.
- Participate in on-call rotations, recover major production incidents, and serve as a senior escalation point.
- Plan and execute failover testing within and between AWS regions.
- Automate system and component recovery using infrastructure-as-code and configuration management.
- Implement production automation to reduce manual effort and operational toil.
- Design and maintain monitoring, alerting, observability solutions, and reusable code-defined dashboards.
- Contribute to post-mortems, root cause analyses, reliability documentation, and mentoring of junior engineers.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience operating managed cloud database services such as Aurora MySQL, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB, or Amazon ElastiCache.
- Strong SQL skills in database design, optimization, troubleshooting, schema design, query tuning, indexing, locks, and performance bottlenecks.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, or a comparable scripting and automation language.
- Experience designing and implementing monitoring and observability solutions.
- Understanding of high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Experience with CloudFormation or Terraform and CI/CD practices for database change management.
- Experience implementing database security, access governance, resiliency patterns, or supporting highly available production environments.
