Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain real-time video pipelines with WebRTC, RTSP, RTMP, hardware-accelerated transcoding, and multi-stream rendering for up to 10 robot feeds.
  • Architect and optimize GStreamer pipelines for video capture, processing, recording, and S3 cloud upload, including codec selection, pad/cap negotiation, and custom plugin development.
  • Own real-time two-way audio, SIP/VoIP integration, AWS Polly text-to-speech, and talk-down functionality with a sub-200 ms round-trip latency target.
  • Implement and optimize WebRTC signaling, ICE, DTLS-SRTP, and media server components for distributed robot deployments.
  • Profile, debug, and tune A/V performance for low latency, high throughput, resilience, concurrent multi-robot load, and variable network conditions.
  • Build Make-a-Clip functionality to extract, annotate, and store segments from live and recorded video feeds.
  • Define and maintain A/V API contracts, participate in code reviews and technical documentation, and maintain on-call runbooks.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architectural decisions across the A/V stack.

  • Deep WebRTC expertise, including signaling protocols, ICE/STUN/TURN, DTLS-SRTP, RTP/RTCP, and media server architecture such as Janus or mediasoup.
  • Strong hands-on GStreamer developer experience building and debugging complex multi-branch pipelines, elements, pads, caps, and custom plugins.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ including C++11/14/17 for performance-critical media and networking code, plus Python for tooling and automation.
  • Experience with SIP/VoIP protocols and stacks such as pjsip and Asterisk, as well as low-latency audio processing.
  • Strong understanding of H.264/H.265, VP9, AAC, and Opus codecs and RTSP, RTMP, HLS, and RTP streaming protocols.
  • Experience with AWS media services and cloud-based media pipeline architectures, including S3, Kinesis Video Streams, and Polly.
