Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and long-term design patterns for a self-service CI/CD platform and cloud-native runtime environments.
- Define delivery, infrastructure, reliability, platform-operations, security, and governance standards across engineering.
- Serve as the final escalation point and design authority for production AWS EKS environments across multiple clusters and regions.
- Architect Istio service-mesh patterns including mTLS, traffic routing, ingress and egress gateways, canary releases, and circuit breaking.
- Standardize CircleCI and GitOps workflows using reusable templates, ArgoCD patterns, and self-service delivery capabilities.
- Build internal tooling, Kubernetes operators, Terraform modules, and automation to reduce infrastructure complexity and technical debt.
- Design automated policy, security, compliance, vulnerability-management, and secure software-delivery controls.
- Improve Kubernetes resource efficiency, cloud operations, capacity planning, and cost management in partnership with Engineering, Security, and Finance.
- Lead architecture reviews, write RFCs, influence cross-functional teams, and mentor Senior and Staff DevOps engineers.
- Use AI coding assistants and LLMs thoughtfully while validating generated output for security, performance, reliability, and accuracy.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in infrastructure automation, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or distributed systems.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience building, hardening, and troubleshooting production Amazon EKS environments across complex multi-cluster or multi-region topologies.
- 3+ years of deep experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting Istio or a comparable service-mesh platform, including traffic management and ingress and egress patterns.
- Experience leading technical initiatives across a large engineering organization and influencing organizations of 200+ engineers outside the immediate reporting structure.
- Experience defining standards, building reusable platform capabilities, and driving adoption through developer enablement.
- Experience with AWS, Amazon EKS, EC2, VPC, IAM, networking, Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm.
- Experience with CircleCI, ArgoCD, GitOps workflows, reusable pipeline templates, deployment automation, and release strategies.
- Experience with Istio, Envoy, mTLS, traffic routing, canary releases, circuit breaking, observability, and distributed-systems troubleshooting.
- Experience with IRSA, Kubernetes Network Policies, OPA or Kyverno, secrets management, vulnerability management, and secure supply-chain practices.
- Experience with Terraform, Python or Go, Kubernetes operators, platform scripting, and internal developer tooling.
- Experience with Karpenter or comparable Kubernetes autoscaling, FinOps principles, capacity planning, incident response, and operational excellence.
- Preferred qualifications include large-scale CircleCI experience, multi-cluster Istio and Kubernetes networking experience, CKA, CKS, or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional certification, and multi-cloud or Google Cloud Platform and GKE migration experience.
- Strong communication, collaboration, systems thinking, judgment, hands-on execution, and comfort leading through ambiguity are required.
