Responsibilities
- Own system design and technical architecture for globally distributed AppleCare sales, service, and support platforms.
- Translate ambiguous business requirements into concrete technical architectures and solutions across enterprise environments.
- Define and document API contracts, data flows, interface definitions, and engineering specifications for inter- and intra-system interactions.
- Architect systems for high availability, fault tolerance, horizontal scalability, privacy, and performance under variable traffic loads.
- Partner with business stakeholders and engineering teams from system impact analysis through production delivery.
- Develop domain expertise and apply it to architectural decisions and optimization opportunities.
- Use performance monitoring and observability data to identify design and optimization opportunities.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams across multiple time zones.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience focused on system design, technical architecture, or solution architecture.
- Demonstrated experience with large-scale, customer-facing production systems and enterprise solutions.
- Experience designing and documenting API contracts, data flows, interface definitions, and engineering specifications.
- Experience architecting distributed systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and horizontal scalability.
- Ability to translate business requirements into system designs and technical solutions.
- Familiarity with modern backend stacks and data stores such as Java, Python, SOA, J2EE, object-oriented programming, Oracle, NoSQL, and MongoDB.
- Knowledge of Agile and traditional waterfall software development methodologies.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or another technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: 12+ years of relevant software engineering experience and at least 4 years in hands-on development or technical architecture.
- Preferred: experience with complex domain expertise, observability and performance monitoring, vendors and contractors, cross-functional distributed teams, and leading multiple global efforts.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, written and verbal communication, organizational, leadership, influencing, creative-thinking, and critical-thinking skills.
