Responsibilities
- Build and own automation for packaging and deploying products to on-premises and air-gapped customer environments.
- Develop primarily Python-based tooling that integrates and extends off-the-shelf tools.
- Provision and manage infrastructure from bare metal and hypervisors through Kubernetes using reproducible infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Maintain fast, disposable cloud development environments that allow engineers to launch full stacks on demand.
- Build CI/CD pipelines producing signed, versioned, offline-installable releases.
- Set up observability suitable for environments without external connectivity.
- Identify team needs proactively and drive solutions through completion.
Requirements
- Senior hands-on individual-contributor engineer; this is not an engineering manager or architect role.
- Strong experience building infrastructure and deployment automation rather than only operating existing systems.
- Strong Python skills, or deep experience in another language such as Go with willingness to work in Python.
- Daily use of AI engineering tools beyond chat, including code, configuration, and test generation and review, with examples such as Claude Code or Cursor.
- High autonomy and ability to identify problems, propose fixes, and deliver them.
- Motivation to build technology for defense forces and new defense applications.
- Preferred experience includes on-premises or datacenter infrastructure, server bootstrapping, virtualization, storage, networking, air-gapped or restricted environments, release engineering, and internal engineering tools.
- Preferred experience includes operating PostgreSQL in production; PostGIS experience is a plus.
- Preferred qualifications include a strong individual-contributor track record in a startup or fast-changing company, comfort with changing requirements, and clear communication with experienced engineers.
