Responsibilities
- Own software projects from problem definition through design, implementation, testing, rollout, and operation.
- Design, build, and operate scalable APIs and backend systems for Stripe’s user interfaces.
- Modernize UI architecture through migrations, automated validation, shadow traffic, feature flags, and controlled production rollouts.
- Improve service reliability, observability, performance, and operability on critical user paths.
- Partner with frontend, backend, infrastructure, and product engineers to build reusable platform capabilities.
- Use AI-assisted and agentic development workflows for implementation, testing, validation, and delivery.
- Contribute code reviews, technical discussions, documentation, and runbooks.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent practical experience building, shipping, and operating production systems.
- Fluency with AI-assisted and agentic development tools, including reviewing and validating generated code.
- Strong knowledge of backend technologies and infrastructure, including APIs, data storage, distributed systems, and production operations.
- Ability to independently scope and deliver open-ended software projects with limited oversight.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, testing, maintainability, reliability, and user-impact awareness.
- Strong written and verbal communication and effective cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with backend-for-frontend systems, UI or developer platforms, GraphQL APIs, high-throughput event ingestion, feature flag or experimentation systems, caching, asynchronous systems, configuration systems, data consistency, large migrations, shadow traffic, staged rollouts, and platform improvement using data or operational signals.
