Base Salary
$230k - $280k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term technical direction and architecture for core backend systems and services.
- Lead complex, cross-team engineering initiatives from design through production operation.
- Design, implement, and review critical backend infrastructure and solve complex technical problems hands-on.
- Architect resilient distributed systems, APIs, data services, and asynchronous workflows for enterprise workloads.
- Improve reliability, observability, performance, capacity planning, incident prevention, and operational efficiency.
- Mentor Senior and Staff engineers and help develop emerging technical leaders.
- Partner with engineering, product, AI, security, platform, infrastructure, and business leadership on technical strategy and investment decisions.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience architecting, building, and operating complex large-scale backend or platform systems in production.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, service architecture, data consistency, concurrency, fault tolerance, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Expert proficiency in at least one modern backend programming language and willingness to work extensively in Python.
- Strong experience designing and operating cloud-native applications on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Understanding of infrastructure automation, deployment practices, production operations, API design, data modeling, databases, asynchronous processing, and backend architecture.
- Ability to independently identify important technical problems and translate complex requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to improve engineering effectiveness through reusable systems, architectural simplification, mentorship, and technical standards.
- Ability to work on-site in the Palo Alto office three days per week.
- Preferred experience with generative AI applications, LLM-powered workflows, AI infrastructure, multi-tenant enterprise SaaS, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Terraform, monitoring and observability tooling, regulated environments, HIPAA, SOC 2, and rapidly growing organizations.
