Responsibilities
- Develop temporal models for activity and workflow understanding, including event/state recognition and fine-grained temporal action segmentation.
- Benchmark internal models against state-of-the-art approaches and recommend perception architectures.
- Define perception inputs and outputs and demonstrate offline feasibility using recorded data.
- Build continuous-improvement workflows involving discrepancy flagging, active learning, human-in-the-loop relabeling, and evaluation tooling.
- Partner with annotation and data teams on label taxonomies, quality control, and AI/ML data pipelines.
- Establish the transition from offline recorded-data evaluation to real-time integration.
- Collaborate with AI/ML researchers, robotics specialists, data engineers, software engineers, and clinical or domain experts.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field, plus 5+ years of applied computer-vision research experience.
- Strong knowledge of computer vision and deep learning, including CNNs, vision transformers, segmentation, detection, tracking, and representation or self-supervised learning.
- Demonstrated video-understanding experience with temporal action segmentation, action or phase recognition, and video segmentation.
- Hands-on experience with video architectures and self-supervised video pretraining.
- Experience with large, messy, real-world video datasets at scale.
- Strong Python and C++ software and experimentation skills, with proficiency in PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
- Ability to run reproducible research loops covering data curation, augmentation, loss design, metrics, and error analysis.
- Strong foundations in linear algebra, probability, and optimization.
- Preferred: healthcare, medical-device, surgical-robotics, or regulated-domain experience.
- Preferred: sim-to-real workflows, robotics simulators, structured labeling frameworks, multimodal fusion, annotation and active-learning pipelines, real-time or edge optimization, interaction modeling, and relevant peer-reviewed publications.
