Responsibilities

  • Design and implement computer vision models for defect detection, segmentation, and classification.
  • Accelerate model training with synthetic data, active learning, domain randomization, and augmentation.
  • Manage the full model lifecycle, including image collection, labeling, validation, rollout, monitoring, retraining, and quality gates.
  • Package and deploy models with Docker and Kubernetes while implementing version control, rollback, observability, and MLOps practices.
  • Optimize inference for embedded and edge hardware to meet real-time moving-line inspection latency requirements.
  • Integrate vision systems with PLCs, encoders, triggers, industrial networks, OPC-UA, MQTT, REST, and Toyota plant connectivity architectures.
  • Monitor uptime, drift, calibration, lighting variation, false-positive and false-negative rates, and inspection failure root causes.
  • Lead inspection booth software deployments from concept through Start of Production and conduct optical AI trials at manufacturing plants.
  • Collaborate with Toyota manufacturing, engineering, automation, IT, and enterprise AI organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, IT, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in industrial machine vision and edge AI deployment.
  • At least 3 years of AI/ML experience with camera-based vision systems.
  • Experience managing data collection, labeling, validation, rollout, monitoring, and retraining across the model lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, and embedded hardware optimization.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, shutdowns, and multiple shifts as needed, including up to 30% overtime.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% across the United States, Canada, Mexico, other manufacturing sites, and Japan.
  • Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree, optical systems or optical physics research, deep learning for production systems, software project management, AI safety and optical fault-handling, synthetic data generation with GANs, VAEs, NeRFs, or Blender, high-speed inline inspection, and IIoT data pipelines.
