Responsibilities
- Design and implement computer vision models for defect detection, segmentation, and classification.
- Accelerate model training with synthetic data, active learning, domain randomization, and augmentation.
- Package models with Docker and deploy them through Kubernetes or equivalent orchestration.
- Implement MLOps practices including version control, rollback strategies, observability, drift detection, monitoring, and retraining.
- Optimize inference for edge and embedded hardware to meet real-time moving-line inspection latency requirements.
- Integrate vision systems with PLCs, encoders, triggers, and industrial networks using OPC-UA and MQTT.
- Align deployments with Toyota’s ICS+, GALC, and TVIP plant connectivity and reliability standards.
- Lead defect image collection, annotation workflows, model validation quality gates, calibration, backup and restore, and root-cause analysis.
- Develop deflectometry, reflection, and multi-camera imaging solutions for vehicle surface quality control.
- Lead inspection booth software deployments from concept through Start of Production and evaluate optical AI solutions through plant trials.
- Collaborate with manufacturing facilities, Toyota Motor Corp, Toyota Technical Center, production engineering, IT, automation, and enterprise AI teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of industrial machine vision and edge AI deployment experience.
- At least 3 years of AI/ML experience with camera-based vision systems.
- Experience managing the full model lifecycle from data collection and labeling through validation, rollout, monitoring, and retraining.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, and embedded hardware optimization.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, shutdowns, and multiple shifts, with up to 30% overtime.
- Ability to travel up to 30% across the United States, Canada, Mexico, other manufacturing sites, and Japan.
- Preferred advanced degree and background in optical systems, computer vision, image processing, or AI automation.
- Preferred research experience in optical physics, specular reflection, deflectometry, or multispectral imaging applied to production deep learning.
- Preferred 5+ years of software project management involving internal and external stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with AI safety controls, optical fault handling, PFMEAs, camera trigger reliability frameworks, QCPs, high-speed inline inspection, vision-based process control, IIoT data pipelines, and messaging standards.
- Preferred expertise with GANs, VAEs, NeRFs, Blender, synthetic data generation, and domain randomization.
