Base Salary
$190k - $267k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and implement infrastructure for ingesting, processing, storing, and delivering Reddit video and audio content.
- Contribute to technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, launch, code review, and design-document review.
- Collaborate with product, design, client engineering, and platform engineering teams to execute strategy and improve global media performance.
- Establish engineering standards and best practices, improve developer workflows, and mentor junior engineers.
- Balance delivery speed and software quality while building new media products and features.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of industry experience with large-scale distributed systems.
- At least 5 years of hands-on professional software development experience in one or more of Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C++.
- Experience designing and implementing maintainable APIs using GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and Thrift basics.
- Experience with distributed caching layers and large-scale distributed data storage systems such as Redis.
- Familiarity with image processing and delivery, including image scaling, cropping, progressive JPEG, and WebP.
- Familiarity with HLS, MPEG-DASH, MP4, streaming protocols, and H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, and AV1 compression standards.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, communication, collaboration, and project-delivery skills.
- Preferred experience measuring and improving video quality using VMAF and PSNR.
- Preferred hands-on experience with FFMPEG, GPAC, and similar media frameworks.
- Preferred experience with AVFoundation, VideoToolbox, video prefetching, background data fetching, and SQL-based data analysis.
