Responsibilities
- Design, build, and continuously support foundational infrastructure for developers.
- Address scalability challenges and implement technical solutions that benefit the broader team.
- Develop and support build systems, cloud infrastructure, and internal support tools.
- Own platforms from inception through development, testing, and production release.
- Mentor junior developers and review team code for quality and performance.
- Participate in an on-call rotation of approximately one week per quarter and support rotating hours for Garmin’s 24/7 operations.
- Promote team communication, engineering best practices, and education in new technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related field and at least five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 as a general rule.
- Demonstrated ability to design well-architected software systems, research fundamental problems, and implement algorithmic solutions.
- Ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project and decompose requirements into well-defined tasks.
- Strong peer technical assessment, communication, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Mastered proficiency in C#, SQL, PHP, or Python, with relevant data structures or object-oriented design experience or training.
- Preferred experience with Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, CI/CD tools such as TeamCity and Jenkins, AWS or GCP, Docker, container orchestration, microservices, Clean Architecture, and Domain-Driven Design.
- Preferred experience addressing scale and refactoring applications through completed architectural changes.
