Responsibilities
- Deliver large-scale migrations from on-premises SQL Server and legacy Microsoft systems to Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Plan and execute pre-migration analysis, dependency mapping, dry runs, go-live cutovers, rollback planning, and post-migration hypercare.
- Develop and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, schema objects, execution plans, indexes, and statistics for high-volume applications.
- Design scalable database structures using normalization, denormalization, and dimensional modeling where needed.
- Build and maintain enterprise data pipelines in Azure Data Factory using incremental and bulk ingestion patterns.
- Manage structured and unstructured data in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
- Support database deployment and release automation through Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Define data archival and retention strategies using SQL Server and Azure services.
- Monitor database operations, respond to incidents, prepare root-cause analyses, and manage database availability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and SQL Insights.
- Collaborate with product and architecture teams to deliver stable data systems.
Requirements
- Experience with large-scale database migration and end-to-end migration planning.
- Strong T-SQL skills, including complex queries, stored procedures, schema design, and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of blocking, deadlocks, index strategy, I/O bottlenecks, statistics management, and execution-plan analysis.
- Experience designing relational and dimensional data structures.
- Experience building data pipelines with Azure Data Factory.
- Experience managing data in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, database deployment, and release automation.
- Knowledge of data archival, retention, monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, and database availability management.
- Ability to collaborate with product and architecture teams and willingness to learn and develop skills.
