Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and technical direction of a moderately scoped service within the behavioral data platform from design through delivery.
- Deliver complete software components and help coordinate feedback and work across the team.
- Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and customer teams to turn ambiguous requirements into technical plans.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks, including gaps against SLAs and reliability commitments.
- Lead data-driven design discussions and evaluate technical trade-offs.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and provide technical direction through code reviews and design discussions.
- Operate owned services and help improve team processes for regular, incremental software delivery.
- Use AI coding assistants and agents and help establish team adoption standards.
- Organize and lead technical communities of practice.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on expertise in Java and backend service design with production software delivery experience.
- Experience building and operating Kafka-based streaming pipelines and services in AWS production environments.
- Strong experience with distributed systems, concurrency, scaling, and diagnosing complex production issues.
- A track record of mentoring engineers and providing constructive technical direction.
- Ability to partner with product managers and stakeholders to shape technical scope from ambiguous requirements.
- Sound judgment on issues of moderate to broad scope.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build consensus across technical viewpoints.
- Proficiency in English.
- Preferred experience with GraphQL APIs, microservices architectures, Kubernetes, distributed data processing, Spark, Hadoop/Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Airflow, data modeling, agentic AI tools, recommendation systems, SQL performance tuning, Tableau, or Looker.
