Responsibilities
- Translate ambiguous business problems into well-defined ML and data science problems and determine when ML is not the right solution.
- Set technical direction and make build-versus-buy, ML-versus-heuristic, and model-architecture decisions based on business impact, cost, latency, and complexity.
- Own production ML systems end to end, including data ingestion, model training, serving, monitoring, retraining, and rollback.
- Build and scale services, APIs, and integrations around models to deliver ML-powered product features.
- Design for failure modes including data drift, train/serve skew, feedback loops, cold starts, and label leakage.
- Define and defend offline evaluation metrics, online A/B tests, and long-term business KPIs.
- Partner with product, design, and business stakeholders to shape the roadmap and communicate model behavior and data insights.
- Raise the team's technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, mentorship, and technical direction.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience working as an ML/AI engineer.
- Hands-on experience owning ML systems end to end in production environments.
- Experience building and scaling ML-powered products from early-stage development to large-scale production usage.
- A track record of taking ML systems from problem framing to production and measurable business impact, including shipped features used by customers.
- Experience with Python and SQL, plus hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse; BigQuery is preferred.
- Experience with a public cloud; GCP is preferred.
- Strong understanding of both classical machine learning and deep learning.
- Excellent English communication skills for working directly with cross-country teams.
- Fluent use of AI coding assistants and LLM-based tools such as Claude Code or Copilot in daily development.
- Nice to have experience with vector databases and embedding-based retrieval.
- Nice to have familiarity with event-driven and streaming data pipelines.
- Prior mentoring or technical-direction experience is preferred.
