Responsibilities
- Design and implement single-agent and multi-agent systems using explicit workflows, state machines, tool contracts, memory strategies, retries, timeouts, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
- Build and tune enterprise retrieval pipelines covering chunking, embeddings, hybrid search, re-ranking, metadata filtering, query rewriting, permissions, multi-tenant isolation, and source synchronization.
- Create evaluation suites, regression coverage, unit and integration tests, offline and online evaluations, and A/B or shadow deployments for agent changes.
- Instrument and operate agents in production with tracing, cost and latency accounting, SLOs, dashboards, alerts, on-call participation, and incident analysis.
- Implement defenses against prompt injection, data exfiltration, tool misuse, and excessive agency, including least-privilege access, guardrails, PII handling, audit logging, and approval gates.
- Integrate agents with enterprise systems through APIs, event streams, MCP-style tool servers, authentication, authorization, OAuth, service principals, and delegated access.
- Translate business processes into agent specifications with measurable success criteria and ROI, and produce architecture records, runbooks, and handover documentation.
- Mentor engineers and review designs and code for agent-specific risks and implementation quality.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 1–2 years shipping LLM-based systems to production users.
- Strong Python or TypeScript skills, working proficiency in the other, and experience with asynchronous programming, API design, and typed data models such as Pydantic or Zod.
- Production experience building at least one multi-step, tool-calling agent and diagnosing and fixing its failure modes.
- Hands-on experience with an orchestration framework such as LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK, Bedrock Agents, AutoGen, or CrewAI.
- Practical RAG experience with vector and hybrid search, chunking, re-ranking, and retrieval evaluation.
- Experience writing LLM evaluations and regression coverage for prompt and system changes.
- Working knowledge of observability and LLM tracing tools such as OpenTelemetry, LangSmith, Langfuse, or Arize.
- Understanding of LLM security threats and standard mitigations.
- Experience integrating enterprise systems through REST or GraphQL APIs, webhooks, or message queues, including OAuth 2.0 and service-account authentication flows.
- Experience with Temporal, Durable Functions, or Step Functions for long-running agent processes.
- Experience implementing an MCP server or client.
- Preferred experience includes Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud deployment, containers, CI/CD, fine-tuning or distillation, structured-output and function-calling optimization, knowledge graphs or semantic layers, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, audit requirements, consulting, or client-facing delivery.
