Responsibilities
- Engage business and technology stakeholders, facilitate requirements and design workshops, and translate business objectives into technical solution designs.
- Produce options analyses, architecture decision records, interface definitions, and non-functional requirements.
- Design and build cross-platform solutions spanning cloud infrastructure, integration, APIs, automation, containers, and web hosting.
- Provision and configure platform services using Terraform, Ansible, and approved infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Develop supporting automation and tooling using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or another suitable language.
- Lead technical delivery across multiple platforms and contributing teams through operational handover.
- Ensure production readiness through monitoring, alerting, runbooks, backup, recovery, and observability instrumentation.
- Investigate complex issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive corrective actions.
- Apply enterprise security, identity, access, secrets, and certificate-management practices.
- Review engineering work, mentor less experienced engineers, and improve design and implementation standards.
Requirements
- Demonstrated capability in solution engineering, platform engineering, or technical delivery.
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one major public cloud and practical exposure to a second.
- Experience owning solutions end to end from requirements and design through build and operational handover.
- Practical experience with Terraform and Ansible.
- Proficiency in at least one of Python, PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, or Java.
- Working knowledge of several areas including containers and Kubernetes, integration and APIs, web hosting, networking, and identity.
- Ability to run workshops and engage business stakeholders directly.
- Clear written and verbal English communication, including presenting designs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preferred experience includes mentoring engineers or leading small technical workstreams.
- Preferred experience includes OpenShift, Backstage or another developer portal, GitOps tooling, integration or API platforms, web and application servers, and regulated environments such as GxP.
- Preferred certifications include AWS or Azure professional/expert certifications, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, ITIL, or an agile qualification.
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related discipline is preferred.
