Responsibilities
- Design and build distributed runtime, orchestration, control-plane, and system API components for Apple Ray.
- Develop platform features for large-scale ML model training, tuning, serving, inference, and data pipelines.
- Improve developer productivity, resource efficiency, performance, and reliability for ML workloads.
- Translate ML practitioner and pipeline requirements into robust platform capabilities.
- Collaborate with ML engineers, data engineers, and infrastructure teams.
- Debug distributed and ML-centric runtime environments and contribute to open-source ML or distributed systems projects.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience building distributed systems, high-scale backend services, or compute runtimes.
- Strong background in ML workflows, model training, model serving, or data pipeline development.
- Proficiency in Python and strong experience with C++, Rust, Go, or Java.
- Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow and familiarity with GPU-based training.
- Understanding of parallelism strategies, model scaling, or distributed training concepts.
- Experience with Kubernetes, EKS, GKE, or large-scale compute systems.
- Strong debugging and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field, or comparable software engineering experience.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with DeepSpeed, Horovod, FSDP, ZeRO, GPU workload optimization, performance benchmarking, model orchestration systems, ML platforms, open-source projects, Spark, or Flink.
