Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of new features and services within the core Java platform.
- Own backend engineering initiatives from conception through deployment and contribute to long-term architectural decisions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and QA to deliver critical engineering initiatives.
- Define and champion engineering best practices, testing improvements, and CI/CD strategies.
- Mentor and coach engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
- Develop maintainable, secure software with comprehensive automated test coverage.
- Create technical documentation and promote knowledge sharing.
- Champion AI-native engineering practices and use AI coding assistants while maintaining code quality and security standards.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software development experience designing and building scalable, high-performance server-side features using Java and Spring.
- Deep expertise with Postgres or MySQL, including schema design and query optimization.
- Extensive experience designing, building, and securing RESTful APIs for large-scale systems.
- Expertise in caching, asynchronous processing, and multithreading on server-side systems.
- Strong understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles.
- Experience working in fast-paced agile environments with CI/CD and automated testing.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction.
- Proficiency using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot while maintaining high standards for code quality and security.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Preferred familiarity with FIDO, U2F, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, federation, cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, CISSP or Security+ certifications, ReactJS, gRPC API development, and microservice architecture.
Benefits
- Annual base salary of $170,000–$220,000 CAD for candidates located in Canada, plus equity and bonus opportunities.
