Responsibilities
- Define technical strategy for merchant-facing Stripe experiences, emphasizing quality, performance, and AI integration.
- Lead complex cross-team projects that improve the reliability, responsiveness, and polish of Stripe Dashboard and merchant tools.
- Establish engineering standards, tooling, and processes that promote high-quality and performant UI development.
- Own the technical approach to Dashboard performance, including instrumentation, performance budgets, and architectural improvements.
- Prototype and develop new AI-powered merchant interaction models and workflows.
- Build frameworks, components, abstractions, and developer tools that improve engineer productivity.
- Partner with Product, Design, AI and ML, and infrastructure teams to create and execute a technical roadmap.
- Mentor and grow engineers across the organization and raise technical and engineering-culture standards.
Requirements
- Most candidates will have 10–15 years of industry experience, although the posting states there is no strict minimum.
- Experience building and shipping complex, user-facing web applications for large-scale audiences or applications contributed to by hundreds of engineers.
- Track record of leading large-scale, cross-functional engineering projects with broad organizational impact.
- Deep expertise in modern frontend and full-stack development.
- Demonstrated ability to improve software quality and performance through measurable results such as load times, reliability, test coverage, or error rates.
- Ability to influence technical direction and align multiple teams without formal authority.
- Excellent communication skills for articulating technical vision to engineers, product leaders, and executives.
- Preferred experience with design systems, component libraries, frontend platform infrastructure, and React.
- Preferred experience with performance engineering, global-scale web application deployment, distributed systems, API design, and developer platforms.
- Preferred hands-on experience integrating AI-powered capabilities into user-facing products.
- Preferred experience mentoring senior engineers and contributing to engineering culture and hiring.
