Base Salary
$120k - $160k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize cloud-based database architectures for petabyte-scale biomedical datasets.
- Implement and manage partitioning, sharding, and replication strategies for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Tune queries, schemas, and indexing strategies for high-throughput workloads.
- Support production-level database operations in complex, high-availability environments.
- Integrate cloud-native data services with data pipelines and APIs in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Troubleshoot database performance issues and implement proactive monitoring solutions.
Requirements
- At least five years of professional database experience with large, distributed, or cloud-hosted databases is required.
- Advanced SQL proficiency, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and stored procedures, is required.
- Deep knowledge of database partitioning and sharding strategies in cloud environments is required.
- Hands-on experience with Linux/UNIX environments and Bash or Python scripting is required.
- Familiarity with AWS RDS, Aurora, Athena, Google BigQuery, or equivalent cloud database services is required.
- Experience operating production databases with high concurrency and large-scale data ingestion is required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills involving performance bottlenecks, query execution plans, and distributed systems are required.
- Preferred qualifications include Microsoft SQL Server, bioinformatics databases or large scientific datasets, Docker, Kubernetes, XML schemas, data warehouse, data lake or data lakehouse concepts, Apache Spark, Hadoop, Jupyter, Python, and C++.
