Base Salary

$225k - $250k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and build payout and money-movement systems with onboarding, KYC, country and payout-method support, webhook reconciliation, retries, rate-limit handling, zero-downtime rollouts, and full auditability.
  • Build payment and incentives infrastructure for compensating, rewarding, and retaining fellows across projects.
  • Develop Trust & Safety systems for KYC and re-verification, sanctions and fraud screening, ban and suspicious-account transitions, and time-tracking audits.
  • Own the Pay admin dashboard, ledger, and operational tooling used to run pay cycles safely.
  • Lead schema design, migrations, backfills, and safe deployment rollouts across PostgreSQL.
  • Set engineering practices through system design reviews, incident response, runbooks, observability, code review, architectural guidance, and mentoring.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful ownership of production systems where correctness and uptime matter.
  • Strong system design fundamentals for reliable, zero-downtime, auditable, and resilient systems, including migrations, idempotency, retries, backfills, audit logs, and reconciliation jobs.
  • Deep proficiency with PostgreSQL, relational databases, data modeling, and schema evolution under load.
  • Strong backend skills in Ruby on Rails and/or TypeScript/Node, with willingness to work across both, plus comfort with React.
  • Experience designing and operating asynchronous workflows such as Temporal or Sidekiq and integrating with third-party APIs such as Stripe, Deel, and Hubstaff.
  • Track record of leading technical projects end-to-end, shipping behind feature flags, and verifying changes in production.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including partnership with Operations, Finance, Legal, and Compliance.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards.
  • Preferred experience includes production payments or money movement, Trust & Safety, fraud, KYC/AML, sanctions screening, identity verification, event sourcing, change-data-capture, audit-log architectures, workflow orchestration, and regulated or compliance-driven workstreams such as 1099-NEC, OFAC, GDPR, or SOC 2 controls.
