Responsibilities
- Set architectural direction across the Assessments domains in alignment with broader engineering strategy.
- Own technical decisions from recommendation and alignment through resolution and delivery.
- Write and maintain technical specifications, design records, and decision documentation.
- Define service boundaries with core platform, data, quality engineering, security, and adjacent domains.
- Lead build-versus-buy evaluations with third-party vendors alongside the director.
- Coach and sponsor senior and staff engineers in architectural work.
- Establish effective uses of AI in engineering and share practices across the organization.
- Shape reliability and testing strategy and reduce recurring on-call load.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience building and operating production software, including several years at staff level or above.
- Track record of driving architecture decisions to completion across multiple teams.
- Strong technical writing and ability to explain complex trade-offs to engineers, product stakeholders, and executives.
- Evidence of mentoring or sponsoring senior engineers.
- Proficiency building and maintaining software on cloud-native platforms, preferably AWS.
- Ability to define ambiguous problems, exercise sound scope judgment, and delegate work appropriately.
