Base Salary

$140k - $182k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Conduct R&D on quantum technologies for energy grid optimization applications.
  • Write and test software implementing quantum algorithms for energy grid optimization problems.
  • Work with external organizations, experimental physicists, and software engineers to translate theoretical concepts into practical implementations.
  • Contribute to government and commercial energy grid optimization proposals.
  • Publish research findings in scientific journals and present at conferences.
  • Optimize quantum circuits, run circuits on quantum hardware, and analyze simulation and hardware results.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members in a collaborative research environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, physics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • High programming proficiency, preferably with Python, or with C/C++ or Julia and the ability to learn Python quickly.
  • Experience with quantum optimization algorithms such as QAOA, IQP circuits, and quantum annealing.
  • Familiarity with quantum optimization theory, including parameter transfer, barren plateaus, and classical optimization algorithms.
  • Experience with quantum error correction and partial error correction, including iceberg codes, encoding, and decoding.
  • Familiarity with energy grid optimization topics such as unit commitment and N-k contingency analysis.
  • Experience optimizing quantum circuits through mapping, routing, and gate decomposition.
  • Experience with noiseless and noisy quantum circuit simulation and with running circuits on quantum hardware.
  • Experience using and ideally modifying open-source quantum software frameworks such as Cirq or Qiskit.
  • Professional communication, collaboration, problem-solving, learning, and productization skills.
  • Preferred: PhD in quantum computation, physics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Experience with Stim and familiarity with fault tolerance, native gate decomposition, qubit mapping and routing, and variational quantum algorithms.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with software engineering practices, backend development, cloud development, GitHub, security practices, and frontend or GUI development.
  • Ability to work from the office three days per week and travel domestically and potentially internationally up to 10%.
