Responsibilities
- Build an end-to-end agentic workflow for scientists from model endpoints through the user interface.
- Build and operate foundations for agentic systems, including orchestration, tool interfaces, state management, evaluation, observability, and failure recovery.
- Design evaluation frameworks to assess deployed model performance.
- Work directly with scientists to understand their workflows and translate findings into engineering priorities.
- Develop generalizable capabilities from individual scientific workflows.
- Partner with product, data, and research teams to shape the roadmap and ship in an emerging product category.
- Own the system architecture and establish the technical approach for delivering AI models to scientists.
Requirements
- Experience building and shipping systems from scratch as a core independent engineer or creating new standalone systems within a larger organization.
- Experience building agentic AI products, including orchestration, tool use, human-in-the-loop review, evaluation, and agent failure modes.
- Experience designing and building production-ready systems, including APIs, data models, testing, deployment, observability, and failure recovery.
- Experience building policy-aware systems with durable audit trails and queryable decision records.
- Full-stack, self-sufficient engineering ability from model endpoint to production interface.
- Ability to set technical direction, make trade-offs, and create clarity in ambiguous environments.
- Preferred experience in life sciences or laboratory work, such as protein design, computational biology, bioinformatics, or tools for bench scientists.
- Preferred experience building internal tooling and standards for coding agents.
- Preferred experience with scientific visualization, including 3D molecular structures, large result sets, and comparison or triage interfaces.
- Engineering lead or manager experience followed by a return to hands-on building is a plus.
