Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and deploy Roku’s next-generation cloud platform and service mesh.
- Build and own compute solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, Istio/Envoy, Terraform, and scripting.
- Research and implement technologies that improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience.
- Integrate security best practices into infrastructure design and automation.
- Build tooling to visualize shared-cluster inefficiencies, network traffic, cross-cluster communication, and cost attribution.
- Collaborate with teams to migrate workloads to Kubernetes and Istio using open-source observability tools.
- Partner with the Observability team to scale monitoring and logging across the platform.
- Apply SRE principles to maintain high availability and streamline onboarding workflows.
- Mentor team members and define infrastructure and automation best practices.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience architecting and managing large-scale cloud systems; AWS is preferred, with GCP or Azure as a plus.
- Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, including platforms such as EKS, GKE, AKS, or similar, and service mesh technologies.
- Proficiency in Go or another programming language and Python or another scripting language.
- Experience designing infrastructure, building automation tools, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines and following modern deployment practices.
- Familiarity with observability tools including Prometheus, Thanos, Loki, and Grafana.
- Ability to work independently and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience integrating AI tools to improve processes and reduce operational toil is a plus.
- Fluency with agentic engineering tools and workflows, including Claude Code, Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks, with demonstrated shipped work.
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience; 8+ years of experience is preferred.
