Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Own enterprise database migration and modernization strategy across SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and cloud database services.
- Develop migration sequencing, tooling standards, reference architectures, and conversion strategies for on-premises to cloud-native platforms.
- Establish database engineering standards for high availability, replication, performance tuning, schema governance, observability, disaster recovery, and resiliency.
- Own enterprise data migration strategy for block storage, file systems, archive repositories, and backup platforms.
- Architect end-to-end data-platform solutions spanning ingestion, storage, processing, transformation, and consumption across hybrid and cloud environments.
- Design cloud block and file storage architectures, including storage tiering, snapshot lifecycle management, protocol compatibility, access control, and high availability.
- Define standards for provisioning, capacity management, encryption at rest, replication, and cost optimization across storage tiers.
- Develop FinOps models for migration scenarios, licensing savings, infrastructure savings, and storage optimization.
- Architect primarily AWS-based cloud-native data and database solutions with consideration for Azure, GCP, and hybrid environments.
- Define infrastructure-as-code standards, service-level objectives, service-level agreements, and platform reliability engineering practices.
- Evaluate emerging managed database, streaming, lakehouse, vector database, and graph database technologies.
- Drive security posture for data workloads through encryption, secrets management, IAM governance, and network isolation.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to translate business needs into platform capabilities and roadmaps.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, operations, and application-development teams to align architecture with enterprise standards.
- Mentor engineers and DBAs and provide thought leadership on modernization and modern architecture principles.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
- At least 7 additional years of architecture or software engineering experience and 2 years of technical leadership experience.
- The broader candidate profile calls for 8 to 10 years of architecture experience and recent hands-on engineering experience with modern technologies.
- Experience executing complex, large-scale technology strategies and developing technology target states and roadmaps.
- Advanced leadership, collaboration, mentoring, communication, judgment, and strategic decision-making skills.
- Experience with transformational change, agile operational models, business capability models, and value creation.
- Strong knowledge of the insurance industry; insurance technology experience is preferred.
- Advanced experience analyzing current and future problems, identifying opportunities, and evaluating alternative solutions.
