Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed platform services and APIs using Java and Python on Kubernetes or equivalent cloud-native infrastructure.
- Contribute to Spark-based data pipelines and processing jobs while working across platform and data engineering codebases.
- Build AI, GenAI, and agentic-powered developer, workflow automation, and operational tooling.
- Own service reliability, scalability, observability, SLOs, distributed tracing, alerting, capacity planning, and incident response.
- Guide architecture and system design across microservices, event-driven systems, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
- Partner with data engineers, data scientists, and ML engineers on platform primitives for data pipelines, feature stores, and model-serving paths.
- Establish architecture, design, code, and production-readiness review standards for a newly formed team.
- Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and influence broader platform engineering standards without requiring a management title.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed platforms, with strong Java and Python proficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep experience with microservices, distributed systems, event-driven patterns, API design, service contracts, enterprise integration, domain-oriented design, and low-level design.
- Strong cloud-native experience with containerization, Kubernetes or equivalent orchestration, infrastructure automation, and production operations.
- Working-level Spark experience and familiarity with Hadoop/HDFS, Hive, or Kafka for data engineering work.
- Hands-on experience integrating model APIs and GenAI/LLM tooling, building agentic workflows, using embeddings or vector search, and applying MLOps practices.
- Strong knowledge of observability, distributed tracing, logging, metrics, alerting, incident response, capacity planning, and fault tolerance.
- Knowledge of security, privacy, authentication, authorization, data protection, and secure API design.
- Ability to translate ambiguous technical and business problems into execution plans and operate autonomously in a 0-to-1 environment.
- Additional experience with Go, C++, or Scala is preferred.
- A master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus two years of software engineering experience is preferred.
