Responsibilities

  • Improve the architecture, stability, correctness, and performance of the core Gecko accessibility engine.
  • Debug and fix problems in the multi-process, multi-threaded codebase and resolve operating-system-specific issues.
  • Write code, tests, specifications, and prototypes and analyze data.
  • Collaborate with browser, design, and front-end teams to identify, assess, and remediate accessibility issues.
  • Influence web standards that improve access to new web technologies.
  • Work on infrastructure that exposes the web platform to accessibility technology.
  • Implement new web features and meet Gecko memory-use and performance standards.
  • Engage with Mozilla’s global open-source community and synthesize user feedback into bug reports, feature designs, and strategic direction.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with C++.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and ARIA.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, the web, and web applications.
  • Experience working on cross-platform native applications.
  • Experience writing and debugging multi-process, multi-threaded code.
  • Creative problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Ability to learn a large and complex multi-language codebase.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to participate effectively in a geographically distributed open development team.
  • Passion for empowering and improving the web for people with diverse abilities.
