Responsibilities
- Make sound, defensible technical and architecture decisions and explain trade-offs.
- Design reliable, auditable, and controlled systems appropriate for a regulated bank.
- Consider wider architecture, downstream impacts, failure propagation, and performance under load.
- Connect technical decisions to business outcomes and right-size solutions to their value.
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across teams.
- Advance initiatives across multiple teams without formal authority and establish effective uses of AI in engineering.
Requirements
- Bring distinctive expertise or capabilities that expand what Klarna can build.
- Have built and operated systems with significant reliability, performance, and scale demands.
- Ideally have experience in Java, JavaScript, or Python environments.
- Demonstrate sound trade-off judgment and the ability to explain decisions and rejected alternatives.
- Prioritize business outcomes over unnecessary engineering complexity.
- Communicate complex systems clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Have experience learning from production incidents and improving systems afterward.
- Be comfortable with ambiguity and cross-team influence without formal authority.
