Responsibilities
- Make sound and defensible technical and architectural decisions while explaining trade-offs and rejected alternatives.
- Design and operate reliable, performant systems at scale, considering wider architecture, failure propagation, load, and downstream impacts.
- Connect technical choices to business outcomes and right-size solutions to their actual value.
- Design systems for the reliability, auditability, and controls required in a regulated bank.
- Mentor engineers, raise technical standards across teams, and act as a multiplier for other engineers.
- Advance the use of AI as a practical everyday engineering method.
- Move initiatives forward across multiple teams without formal authority.
Requirements
- Experience building and operating systems with significant reliability and performance demands at scale.
- Experience ideally working in Java, JavaScript, or Python environments.
- Ability to make trade-offs, clearly explain technical decisions, and prioritize business outcomes over engineering elegance.
- Ability to communicate complex systems clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience leading through technical work and influencing across teams without formal authority.
- Comfort with ambiguity and learning from production incidents and unsuccessful designs.
- Ability to bring a capability or specialized experience that Klarna does not currently have.
