Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, elastic, and highly available Block Storage distributed-system components.
- Optimize software, data paths, and system interactions for high-throughput hyperscale workloads.
- Design fault-tolerant systems using redundancy, replication, synchronization, automated failover, and in-service upgrades.
- Build systems resilient to network partitions, infrastructure failures, and traffic spikes through consistency, availability, load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting strategies.
- Define correctness requirements, KPIs, telemetry, dashboards, alerts, fault-injection tests, and brownout tests.
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, participate in operational support rotations, and lead root-cause investigations.
- Implement security controls for multi-tenant cloud environments, including encryption and access controls, while remediating vulnerabilities and supporting compliance.
- Develop infrastructure automation and workflows for provisioning, patching, updating, deployment, and rollback.
- Mentor engineers and influence architectural and engineering practices across teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience designing and delivering large-scale, highly available distributed systems or backend services.
- Strong production programming experience in Java, C++, or comparable systems/backend languages, plus scripting or automation experience such as Python.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, multithreading, and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Experience designing for scalability, high availability, fault tolerance, durability, and performance.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals and protocols including TCP/IP and HTTP.
- Strong production troubleshooting, debugging, performance analysis, and performance-tuning skills.
- Ability to independently own complex technical components and collaborate effectively in an agile engineering environment.
- Preferred experience with multi-tenant cloud infrastructure, virtualized or block storage, storage systems, or data-management platforms.
- Preferred experience with replication, synchronization, consistency, failover, cloud observability, resilience testing, Infrastructure as Code, automated provisioning, security, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and contribute to cross-team architectural decisions.
