Base Salary
$171k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own and develop models across retrieval, pre-ranking, second-pass ranking, and post-ranking.
- Manage the full ML lifecycle, including offline training, model architecture, online serving efficiency, GPU provisioning, and GPU utilization.
- Apply state-of-the-art techniques from deep-learning recommendation systems and LLM literature to the modeling stack.
- Collaborate with backend engineers on reliable, high-quality end-to-end integration.
- Coordinate with Science and Product partners to maximize the business impact of ML improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of full-time experience working on production ML systems.
- Strong proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Go, or Java.
- Strong proficiency with deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, or JAX.
- Experience with distributed data-processing and ETL frameworks such as Spark or Ray Data.
- Strong technical communication and ability to manage multiple cross-functional stakeholders.
- Preferred: master's or PhD in a relevant field with ML/AI publications.
- Preferred: industry experience with deep-learning recommendation systems or LLM model development at scale in production user-facing environments.
- Preferred: experience optimizing deep-learning architectures and serving stacks for GPU utilization across hardware types.
- Preferred: desire to grow into technical leadership and support junior engineers.
Benefits
- For San Francisco and Sunnyvale, California-based roles, the base salary range is USD $171,000-$190,000 per year.
- Eligible full-time employees may participate in Uber's bonus program and may receive equity awards and other compensation.
