Responsibilities
- Design, ship, and own billing infrastructure, usage APIs, and backend services through proposal, design, implementation, testing, production rollout, and on-call support.
- Translate ambiguous or broadly scoped problems into executable technical plans.
- Partner with engineering, product, business systems, and billing stakeholders to align requirements and deliver solutions.
- Develop architecture and design documents for new systems and APIs.
- Evolve the tools and pipelines supporting billing, usage reporting, and orderability for Fastly’s product catalog.
- Design for stability, performance, scalability, and operational observability.
- Mentor and develop engineers through code review, pairing, and technical leadership.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience designing and operating highly available, reliable data pipelines and distributed systems that process large volumes of data at scale.
- At least 5 years of experience building systems that collect, aggregate, and derive insights from large datasets.
- Experience owning multi-week projects end-to-end, from design documentation through post-launch.
- Experience with relational and non-relational storage systems such as MySQL, BigTable, BigQuery, Dynamo, and Cassandra.
- Experience with pub/sub-style message queues such as NSQ, Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, and Kinesis.
- Ability to design for downstream data consumers and apply testing and observability practices effectively.
- Daily working experience with coding agents.
- Preferred experience with billing or finance systems and their data requirements.
- Preferred expertise in RESTful API design, including resource modeling, versioning, idempotency, error semantics, pagination, and OpenAPI.
- Go development experience and cloud technology experience are preferred.
