Responsibilities
- Own significant components of larger deliverables from technical design through delivery within GitLab’s monthly release cycle.
- Design and develop backend systems for vulnerability and dependency management, including security report ingestion, storage, indexing, querying, and third-party integrations.
- Build and improve systems using Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL, and contribute to newer services using Go or Rust where appropriate.
- Improve PostgreSQL queries and schemas as vulnerability-management data scales.
- Collaborate with product, design, frontend, and engineering partners on technical decisions.
- Contribute to technical plans, design discussions, code reviews, pairing, and documentation.
- Apply security-focused engineering practices to vulnerability and dependency-management systems.
- Help establish modular service patterns for GitLab Security.
Requirements
- Professional backend engineering experience delivering production features and components at scale with ownership of outcomes.
- Hands-on PostgreSQL experience with query profiling and optimization, indexing, and schema design.
- Professional experience with Ruby on Rails, Go, or Python, with comfort working in Ruby on Rails day to day.
- Evidence of guiding peers through complex work or independently executing a delivery plan.
- Ability to collaborate with varied partners and clearly explain technical tradeoffs.
- Self-directed approach with proactive communication about decisions, progress, and blockers.
- Experience with security tooling for vulnerability triage and remediation, vulnerability management, dependency management, or related security products.
- Fluency using artificial intelligence tools to improve delivery while applying sound engineering judgment.
- Experience with large monoliths is helpful.
