Responsibilities
- Lead software projects from scoping through implementation and successful launch.
- Design, implement, test, operate, and maintain performant and reliable software systems across Helix products and platforms.
- Use AI coding harnesses and agents to delegate implementation, evaluate output, and maintain production quality and audit-ready compliance.
- Explore, document, and standardize AI tools, agent orchestration workflows, prompt templates, and context frameworks.
- Own significant services or codebase areas, develop domain expertise, and serve as a technical resource.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, user experience researchers, scientists, and business leaders.
- Identify and reduce technical debt while improving engineering practices.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical standards and decisions affecting multiple teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
- 7+ years of equivalent professional experience as a software engineer.
- Proficiency with distributed systems on cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong proficiency in an established backend language such as Go, Java, Python, Scala, or Rust, or in TypeScript/React with a backend language.
- Daily hands-on use of AI coding harnesses and demonstrated ability to delegate implementation to AI agents.
- Understanding of software engineering practices including testing, code review, CI/CD, and observability.
- Ability to scope ambiguous projects, determine solutions, and implement and launch them with minimal guidance.
- Experience mentoring engineers and improving the practices of others.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
- Familiarity with database design, data manipulation, and data quality techniques.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Preferred qualifications include familiarity with regulated software systems such as HIPAA-, ISO-, or FDA-regulated environments, event-driven architectures, AWS and serverless infrastructure, and the life sciences or pharmaceutical industry.
