Responsibilities
- Design and build secure, scalable AWS infrastructure with Terraform and contribute to cloud technology evaluation and standardization.
- Develop and maintain Puppet roles, profiles, modules, Hiera configuration, testing, linting, versioning, and controlled promotion across environments.
- Use Ansible for orchestration and automation, and build GitLab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and configuration delivery.
- Manage AWS EC2 and Linux estates with AWS Systems Manager, including configuration, hardening, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Automate certificate issuance, renewal, rotation, and expiry monitoring across Linux, load balancer, and Kubernetes environments.
- Build and operate Kubernetes and EKS environments and deliver self-service platform tooling, including an internal developer platform such as Backstage.
- Lead infrastructure modernization, operating-system migrations, tooling upgrades, and configuration-drift reduction.
- Manage software dependencies, security patching, vulnerability remediation, RPM packages, and platform artefact repositories.
- Define monitoring, alerting, and observability standards using tools such as Honeycomb, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Resolve complex infrastructure and configuration incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
- Partner with platform and development teams, mentor junior engineers, and maintain technical documentation and engineering standards.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, configuration management, and automation, including significant hands-on Linux and AWS experience.
- Strong hands-on Puppet expertise, including roles, profiles, Hiera, module development, rspec-puppet, and puppet-lint.
- Working experience with Ansible playbooks, roles, and inventory management.
- Experience managing certificate lifecycles with certificate authorities and tools such as AWS Certificate Manager, including safe automated rotation.
- Hands-on AWS platform experience, especially EC2, with knowledge of IAM, S3, VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and networking.
- Practical AWS Systems Manager experience with State Manager, Run Command, Patch Manager, Parameter Store, and automation documents.
- Hands-on Terraform experience; Terragrunt or equivalent tooling is preferred.
- Experience designing multi-stage CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions, with secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and compliance practices.
- Strong Linux administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, Rocky Linux 9, or equivalent, including systemd, SELinux, and security hardening.
- Strong Python and Bash skills; Go is a plus.
- Experience with RPM package management and building, RPM repositories, and artefact repositories such as Artifactory or Nexus.
- Working Kubernetes administration experience, preferably EKS, including networking, RBAC, pod security, and Docker image management; Istio is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with Honeycomb, Prometheus, Grafana, monitoring, observability, and alerting standards.
- Strong TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, traffic management, troubleshooting, and cloud architecture knowledge.
- Experience with security patching, vulnerability management, dependency hygiene, and preferably PCI DSS compliance frameworks.
- Proficiency with Git and collaboration across GitLab, GitHub, and Bitbucket.
