Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for machine learning initiatives across eBay Ads and marketplace discovery.
- Design, build, and operate scalable backend and ML systems for sponsored experiences, ranking, retrieval, and personalization.
- Translate research algorithms and prototypes into hardened, production-ready software in collaboration with Applied Researchers.
- Champion code reviews, testing, documentation, architecture design, and other software engineering best practices.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and pair programming.
- Drive measurable customer and business impact through experimentation, A/B testing, and iteration.
- Support production ML systems with monitoring, alerting, and incident response in a 24/7 environment.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related area with 10+ years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree with 13+ years, in ML, AI, or data engineering.
- Expertise in production engineering practices and software development using an object-oriented language such as Scala or Java.
- Experience with cloud services, big data pipelines, databases, and distributed processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
- Extensive hands-on experience developing production ML/AI systems with Python and frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Experience with serving frameworks including TensorFlow Serving, TorchServe, or NVIDIA Triton.
- Preferred experience with LangChain and Hugging Face Transformers for LLM operations.
- Ability to design and build scalable distributed systems and expose functionality through RESTful or gRPC APIs.
- Mastery of the challenges of running machine learning in live, 24/7 production environments, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
- Ability to collaborate with product, design, analytics, research, engineering, and globally distributed organizational leaders.
