Responsibilities
- Influence the overall architecture of Alpaca’s market data systems.
- Design highly scalable, mission-critical systems with a focus on latency, scalability, and resilience.
- Implement backend services and lead architecture efforts.
- Maintain software quality and test coverage.
- Participate in code reviews.
- Troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs.
- Participate in on-call support for timely engineering projects when needed.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience working on systems at scale.
- Experience with at least one compiled imperative language such as Go, C, C++, or Rust.
- SQL or relational database skills.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP and UDP networking.
- Proficiency with Linux or BSD and shell scripting.
- A proven track record of architecting and leading medium-scale, multi-team projects.
- Experience with Kubernetes or another workload orchestration and scheduling system.
- Experience with major cloud platforms, especially GCP.
- A passion for financial markets.
- Nice-to-have experience includes market data, low-latency applications, distributed key-value stores, cloud networking, observability, tracing, continuous profiling, capacity planning, and benchmarking.
- Knowledge of microservice architectures, clean code principles, CI/CD, and Agile/Scrum methodologies is advantageous.
