Base Salary
$251k - $286k/yr
Responsibilities
- Partner with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI components including foundation model training, LLM inference, agents, multi-agent workflows, similarity search, guardrails, evaluation, governance, experimentation, and observability.
- Optimize foundation model training and inference systems for scalability, cost, latency, throughput, and hardware utilization.
- Design and optimize multi-model orchestration pipelines integrating LLMs, vector search, and domain-specific models.
- Lead cost-performance governance reviews tracking GPU utilization, model throughput, and inference cost efficiency.
- Lead technical design councils and review boards to ensure consistency and compliance with AI engineering standards.
- Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems.
- Mentor Principal- and Manager-level AI engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus at least 6 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a master's degree in one of these fields plus at least 4 years of such experience.
- At least 6 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java.
- Experience leading AI system development with tradeoffs among cost, latency, throughput, and accuracy.
- Preferred experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud, including 7 years of cloud AI experience.
- Experience designing, delivering, and supporting complex AI systems and developing AI/ML technologies such as LLM inference, similarity search, VectorDBs, guardrails, and memory.
- Experience optimizing training and inference software, building agentic AI systems and workflows, and architecting heterogeneous AI pipelines.
- Experience defining ethical AI deployment standards involving explainability, fairness, and human-in-the-loop review.
- Ability to balance model performance and operational cost through dynamic inference, model compression, and hardware right-sizing.
- Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to apply relevant AI research in production.
Benefits
- Annual base salary ranges from $229,900 to $262,400 in McLean and Cambridge and from $250,800 to $286,200 in New York, San Francisco, and San Jose; other locations use location-specific ranges.
- Eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
