Responsibilities
- Build the proprietary Tech SLM platform using LLM fine-tuning and high-precision RAG pipelines to automate high-level design creation and reviews.
- Serve on the AI Council to validate AI use cases, establish design patterns, and enforce architectural guardrails.
- Evaluate open-source and proprietary models against telecommunications performance, safety, and latency requirements.
- Review AI/ML infrastructure and recommend optimizations that reduce infrastructure usage and improve workload efficiency.
- Audit third-party AI tools and agentic frameworks for secure integration and vendor lock-in prevention.
- Define AI/ML architectural disciplines, standards, design patterns, and implementation best practices across the network.
- Establish monitoring frameworks for model performance, safety, and data governance.
- Ensure secure, seamless, and low-latency integration of AI services with the Rakuten Mobile network stack.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of total industry experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in application or software design and architecture involving AI/ML, including hands-on generative AI implementation and model design.
- Strong expertise in LLMs or SLMs, fine-tuning, RAG, vector databases, and prompt engineering.
- Experience designing and deploying scalable AI solutions using Python, cloud platforms, and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of AI governance, responsible AI, security, and data privacy.
- Basic understanding of telecommunications networks, cloud, and networking technologies.
- Advanced proficiency in English.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or AI/ML; telecommunications or mobile network architecture experience; autonomous-network AI experience; LoRA, QLoRA, model distillation, agentic AI frameworks, enterprise AI platforms, AI copilots, domain-specific language models, MLOps, AI observability, model monitoring, lifecycle management, and third-party AI vendor assessment experience.
- Relevant AWS, Azure, GCP, NVIDIA, or equivalent certifications are preferred; Japanese language skills are an advantage.
