Base Salary
$190k - $324k/yr
Responsibilities
- Partner with researchers to structure complex scientific challenges and translate them into rigorous mathematical and computational solutions.
- Design reusable modeling capabilities across agent-based, compartmental, and statistical modeling paradigms.
- Prototype, evaluate, and responsibly integrate emerging AI approaches into disease modeling and model-informed policymaking.
- Build well-designed, well-tested, maintainable software using modern engineering practices and AI development tools.
- Communicate technical concepts and tradeoffs to technical and scientific audiences while coordinating concurrent projects independently.
- Provide technical direction through design reviews, troubleshooting, and collaboration across IDM and research partners.
Requirements
- Typically 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience in scientific programming such as Python or R, ideally involving research software, computational modeling, and cloud-based data solutions, or equivalent impact.
- Hands-on experience building generative-AI systems involving agent design, tool use, and context management in production or research-grade environments.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with computational modeling, including agent-based modeling, compartmental models, or statistical and machine-learning approaches.
- Experience collaborating with researchers, applied scientists, or domain experts in global or public health settings.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver well-tested, maintainable code and work independently while communicating tradeoffs clearly.
- Preferred: open-source software development, cloud-based data and compute platforms, production AI system design, epidemiology or infectious-disease modeling, scientific computing, and adaptable solutions for resource-constrained environments.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization in the country where the position is located.
