
Staff Infrastructure Engineer

Responsibilities
- Set architecture and technical direction for Savvy’s AWS and EKS footprint, including cluster topology, networking, IAM boundaries, and cost.
- Audit the existing infrastructure, identify weaknesses, and execute remediation while the business continues shipping.
- Define OpenTofu module structure, state management, deployment contracts, and engineering platform standards.
- Build SLOs, meaningful alerting, incident response processes, and on-call practices.
- Own production Postgres, Redis, and background job systems, including upgrades, failover, and capacity planning.
- Build tooling and internal services that create a reliable paved road for product engineers.
- Design and operate the compute layer for coding agents and LLM workloads.
- Mentor engineers who have been handling infrastructure work part-time.
Requirements
- At least 3 years as the escalation point for production Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, control plane, networking, and incidents.
- Experience taking over an existing infrastructure platform, evaluating what to retain or replace, and executing improvements without interrupting the business.
- Experience working on an infrastructure team of five or fewer where operational mistakes had material business, customer, or compliance consequences.
- Ability to build software such as controllers, CLIs, deployment systems, or internal services used by other engineers.
- Deep Terraform or OpenTofu experience covering module design, state management, and infrastructure drift.
- Production experience operating Postgres, including connection management, upgrades, and failover.
- Practical experience establishing useful CI/CD and observability practices.
- Fluency with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar, with informed opinions about infrastructure for LLM and agent workloads.
- Experience operating Rails, Sidekiq, Django, Java, or another stateful monolithic application is preferred.
- Fintech or regulated-industry experience is preferred.
- Experience migrating from a managed PaaS to self-managed infrastructure is preferred.
