Responsibilities
- Lead technical execution of firmware projects and set quality standards while guiding peers.
- Own full projects or major portions of multi-engineer projects from design through validation and production support.
- Develop firmware for Embedded Linux, Embedded Android, microcontrollers, and RTOS-based systems.
- Drive architecture and design decisions for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, Sub-GHz, and Cellular LTE/5G connectivity.
- Set direction for battery, power, thermal-management, safety, and reliability subsystems.
- Lead board bring-up, hardware integration, and debugging with Electrical Engineering.
- Set testing strategy and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests.
- Manage dependencies across Firmware, Embedded Product, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Compliance, and external vendors.
- Lead incident resolution and improve operational readiness for systems in scope.
- Conduct technical interviews, mentor engineers, and provide calibrated feedback.
- Use and coordinate agentic AI across design, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation while establishing validation standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of industry firmware or embedded experience developing IoT products.
- Strong programming ability in one or more of C, C++, Rust, Golang, or Python.
- Extensive experience owning firmware or embedded software projects end-to-end.
- Strong kernel and user-space Embedded Linux experience, including Yocto, OpenWRT, or similar embedded distributions for BSP development.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture, peripherals, operating systems, concurrency, networking, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design patterns.
- Ability to read datasheets and schematics and debug issues spanning hardware and software.
- Proven ability to set technical direction, coordinate cross-team dependencies, and work independently through ambiguity.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to interview processes.
- Experience using and coordinating agentic AI tools across engineering workflows and improving team AI effectiveness.
- Preferred experience with Embedded Android/AOSP, RTOS, microcontroller firmware, Cellular LTE/5G modems, battery and thermal systems, robotics, 9-axis orientation algorithms, manufacturing or calibration software, automated hardware/firmware test systems, and cross-functional architecture or design reviews.
