Base Salary
$175k - $185k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, deploy, and monitor backend features and services using Ruby on Rails and Go.
- Help decompose the Rails monolith into independently deployable microservices and contribute to service extraction and architectural decisions.
- Build and maintain APIs for projection management, risk dashboards, alerting, member operations, and other Back Office workflows.
- Own complex, multi-component features from product requirements through production deployment.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve backend resilience under load.
- Define technical direction and communicate architectural recommendations to engineering and business stakeholders.
- Mentor Software Engineers I, II, and III through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Improve practices for code quality, testing, observability, and deployment.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, QA, and other engineering teams.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, root cause analysis, and long-term reliability improvements.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful production experience in both Ruby on Rails and Go.
- A demonstrated ability to own and deliver complex, multi-component features in a team environment.
- Experience with monolith-to-microservices migrations, service extraction, dual-write patterns, and backward compatibility.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems or event-driven architectures.
- Strong Ruby on Rails and idiomatic Ruby proficiency.
- Strong Go proficiency with production-quality, well-tested code.
- PostgreSQL experience including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Understanding of API design and service boundary design, including REST and/or gRPC.
- Experience with asynchronous workflows such as background job processing, message queues, or event streaming.
- Experience with Docker-based containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and observability practices including logging, metrics, and tracing.
- Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems, communicate technical decisions effectively, and context-switch between technical work and collaborative planning.
- Experience working in a fully remote engineering organization.
- Preferred: experience with Pulsar, Kafka, NATS request/reply, JetStream, internal operator-facing platforms, high-traffic real-time systems, Terraform, ArgoCD, sports betting or daily fantasy sports, and AI-assisted development workflows.
