Responsibilities

  • Maintain and advance AvalancheGo, manage team and community contributions, and serve as the final review gate for network-critical code.
  • Design, build, and improve Avalanche consensus, P2P networking, state management and synchronization, the VM interface, and C-Chain EVM integrations through coreth and libevm.
  • Define engineering standards, production-quality expectations, observability standards, node performance SLOs, and incident review practices.
  • Own release quality through versioning, backward compatibility, staged test-network rollouts, upgrade coordination, and comprehensive test-quality metrics.
  • Mentor senior engineers, lead design reviews, distribute technical context, and improve shared engineering standards across teams.
  • Write ADRs, release notes, and technical communications while engaging external contributors and representing open-source best practices.
  • Originate and champion Avalanche Community Proposals and drive protocol direction ahead of upgrades on Fuji and Mainnet.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years operating at staff or lead level or clearly performing at that scope.
  • Expert-level Go proficiency, including concurrency, race detection, profiling, performance tuning, dependency management, and API design.
  • Significant open-source experience as a maintainer or sustained core contributor, with public reviews, design documents, and community engagement.
  • Production experience designing, shipping, and operating distributed systems at scale, including consensus, replication, P2P networking, state synchronization, or comparable high-availability systems.
  • Strong testing experience across unit, property-based/fuzz, integration, and end-to-end network testing, including CI enforcement; GitHub Actions is preferred.
  • Experience with release engineering for self-hosted software, including semantic versioning, backward compatibility, migration paths, and coordinated network upgrades.
  • Working fluency with Linux-based infrastructure, Docker, Kubernetes, and observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority and to operate at Staff scope.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, setting engineering standards, reviewing code, and contributing to open-source communities.
