Responsibilities

Design and build backend services and REST/WebSocket APIs for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery
Own data storage and pipeline architecture, including streaming and event infrastructure
Build low-latency, high-throughput processing for live sports tracking data
Implement authentication and authorization using the team's cloud identity and access management approach
Provide technical direction and review for React and TypeScript frontend development
Collaborate with computer vision and data science engineers on data contracts
Make architecture and technical decisions affecting scale, latency, and maintainability
Contribute to technical leadership of the wider engineering team
Build observability, instrumentation, logging, and tracing into a platform intended to run 24/7

Strong production backend engineering experience in Java
Demonstrated experience building low-latency, high-throughput systems
Working knowledge of a modern frontend framework such as React and TypeScript to review and direct frontend work
Experience with cloud infrastructure and event-driven architectures such as Kafka or equivalent streaming technology
Experience designing and evolving API contracts using OpenAPI or a similar approach
Familiarity with modern cloud identity and access management approaches such as AWS Cognito is preferred
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with product and cross-functional stakeholders
Ability to mentor or direct engineers outside the core backend discipline
Comfort working with ambiguity in a build-phase product
